Original hand-painted Japanese animation production artwork from My Father’s Dragon (エルマーの冒険 / Erumā no Bōken, 1997), the theatrical adaptation of Ruth Stiles Gannett’s classic children’s book.

This striking setup features the gorilla in a strong frontal pose, fists raised and teeth bared. The cel is a multi-layer production setup accompanied by its matching douga. The drawing remains clearly legible overall and shows light paint transfer and production handling traces.

The cel itself presents in very good condition and retains strong colour and line definition. Production marking A20 is visible.

Production context: directed by Masami Hata, a veteran of Mushi Production, Sanrio feature animation and Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland; character design by Shūichi Seki; screenplay by Kenji Terada; supervising animation direction by Yutaka Arai; and art direction by Minoru Nishida. The film was produced by Aubec and released theatrically by Shochiku.
