My Father’s Dragon (エルマーの冒険 / Erumā no Bōken, 1997) is a Japanese theatrical adaptation of Ruth Stiles Gannett’s classic children’s book, a title that had already become a long-established favourite in Japan through its Japanese edition.

The film brought together a veteran feature-animation team: director Masami Hata, whose career runs from Mushi Production to Sanrio features and the international production Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland; character designer Shūichi Seki, closely associated with the World Masterpiece Theater tradition; screenplay writer Kenji Terada, later widely known for his work on the early Final Fantasy games; supervising animation director Yutaka Arai; and art director Minoru Nishida, another Mushi Pro veteran whose later credits include the animated O-Ren Ishii sequence for Kill Bill Vol. 1.

Produced by Aubec and released theatrically by Shochiku, the film belongs to the final years of large-scale hand-painted cel animation. This collection brings together original cels, dougas and related production artwork from that 1997 feature.
