Exceptional original hand-painted production artwork from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, animated by Madhouse under director Yoshiaki Kawajiri.

This setup features Mashira (also romanised Machira), one of the three Barbarois mercenaries hired to protect Meier Link and Charlotte. Mashira is a mutant werewolf-like fighter whose inhuman form and predatory presence make him one of the film’s most memorable secondary characters.

The image is particularly strong: a large, clean portrait with Mashira turning toward the viewer, gold eyes, black mane and red costume fully readable. The cel retains excellent colour density and line definition and is accompanied by its matching production douga, creating a highly desirable paired production set.

Design pedigree: the film is based on Hideyuki Kikuchi’s Vampire Hunter D universe. Yoshitaka Amano created the original character concepts, while Yutaka Minowa adapted the designs for animation and served as character designer and animation director. The film’s staff also includes animation directors Hirotsugu Hamasaki and Tsuneo Abe and setting designers Yuji Ikehata, Takashi Watabe, Yasushi Nirasawa and Takeshi Koike.

Condition: both cel and douga present exceptionally well for original production material, with strong image integrity and only normal evidence of studio handling visible in the photographs.
