An original hand painted production cel depicting Colonel McDougal from Spriggan (1998), accompanied by its corresponding original production douga. Seen from behind in his distinctive green and orange ROCKET cap, yellow scarf and purple vest, McDougal creates a striking graphic silhouette. The bold colour palette and clean character animation make this an especially compelling example of late 1990s Japanese theatrical production art.

The matching douga documents the drawing stage of the same animation image. Both original production elements are included and photographed together. XL format; exact dimensions pending measurement.

Spriggan was produced by Studio 4°C and directed by Hirotsugu Kawasaki, with Katsuhiro Otomo credited for general supervision and Hisashi Eguchi for character design. Based on the manga by Hiroshi Takashige and Ryoji Minagawa, the film remains an important example of ambitious Japanese theatrical animation of the period.
