Metal Armor Dragonar – Falguen Final Battle Close-Up – Original Production Cel + Hand-Painted Background

Exceptional original Japanese animation production artwork from Metal Armor Dragonar (1987–1988), produced by Sunrise.

This striking close-up features Falguen, the custom Metal Armor piloted by Meio Plato, the celebrated “Blue Hawk of Giganos.” The composition is particularly powerful: a monumental frontal view of the mecha fills almost the entire frame, set against a richly painted dark blue mechanical interior.

The set includes the original hand-painted production cel together with its original hand-painted background. Seen separately, the background reveals the full architectural structure of the scene, while the cel layer carries the imposing Falguen image. Together they create a highly finished, display-ready production composition.

Provenance information accompanying the piece identified it as a final battle Falguen scene. In the series finale, Falguen and Dragonar-1 fight together against Dorchenov inside the collapsing Giganos fortress.

Kunio Okawara, one of the defining figures of real-robot design and the mechanical designer behind the original Mobile Suit Gundam, created the mecha designs for Dragonar. The series also became an important showcase for a generation of elite mecha animators, including Masami Obari, whose dynamic mechanical animation helped define late-1980s robot aesthetics.
